How to Price DTF Transfers: Gang Sheets, Single Transfers and Profit
How to price DTF transfers you print and sell: cost film, ink and powder per square foot, add printer time and packing, then set prices for single transfers and gang sheets.

If you own a DTF printer, selling transfers to other crafters can be steady income. But competition on gang sheet prices is tough, so you need to know your real cost per square foot. This guide shows how to price DTF transfers and gang sheets you print yourself, from film and ink to printer time, with three worked examples.

Why DTF pricing is easy to get wrong
DTF film, ink and powder are priced per roll or bottle, so cost per square foot isn't obvious. White ink is a big share of ink use.
DTF printers also need daily maintenance and occasional head replacements. That cost is real and belongs in your price.
The steps
1. Cost film per square foot
Divide the roll price by its square feet. A 22 in x 100 m roll is about 600 sq ft.
2. Estimate ink per square foot
Use your RIP software estimates or track bottles used per month. Include white ink.
3. Add powder
Track how much powder a month of printing uses.
4. Add printer time
Include printer cost, heads, maintenance and power as a cost per sheet.
5. Add cutting and packing
Single transfers need cutting. Gang sheets ship rolled or flat.
6. Add overhead, profit and fees
Use about 10% overhead, 30% to 40% profit and divide by 0.90 for online fees.
Worked example: gang sheet, single and pocket pack

The gang sheet price is in line with many supplier prices, which is why margins are thin. Single transfers and small packs carry more profit per square foot because buyers pay for convenience.
What you keep on each sales channel
The same 22 x 60 in gang sheet at $25.00 leaves different money in your pocket depending on where it sells. This uses the $16.17 cost to make from the example above, with Etsy's current transaction, processing and listing fees and Square's in-person card rate. Shipping, sales tax and ads are left out.

On Etsy, fees take about 11% of a $25.00 sale. If a sale comes through Etsy Offsite Ads, add another 15% (12% for shops over $10,000 a year), so build that into your price if you're enrolled. Wholesale at half of retail loses $3.67 per piece here. Either raise retail, lower your cost, or set a separate wholesale price with a case minimum.
Bulk and custom order pricing
For a repeat order of custom logo transfers, file check and layout takes about 0.5 hr at $20.00/hr. Charge that once per order, then spread it across the pieces. Materials are $1.00 per piece and hands-on time is 3 minutes, which drops when you batch the same design. Overhead is 10%, profit 35%, and 3% covers card or invoice fees.

The price per piece falls from $18.37 to $2.76 because the setup is shared, not because you cut your rate. Quote the tier the customer actually orders, ask for a 50% deposit before you buy blanks, and set a minimum order size for custom work.
