Bath bombs are fun to make and easy to sell at markets and online. The base ingredients are cheap, but fragrance, colorants, embeds and shrink wrap add up. Humidity and cracked bombs also mean waste. This guide shows how to price bath bombs from the recipe to the finished, wrapped product.

Why bath bombs are easy to underprice
Baking soda and citric acid are cheap, so the materials look like pennies. But fragrance oil, mica, polysorbate, embeds and wrap can double the cost.
Batches also fail in humid weather. Count those losses.
The steps
1. Cost the recipe by weight
Total each ingredient cost for one batch, then divide by the bombs it makes.
2. Add embeds and toppings
Toys, flowers, glitter or soap embeds.
3. Add wrap and label
Shrink wrap, label and ingredient sticker.
4. Add batch time
Mixing, molding, drying and wrapping, divided by bombs.
5. Add losses
5% to 10% for cracks.
6. Add overhead, profit and fees
Use 10% overhead, 30% profit and selling fees.
Worked example: standard, large and kids bath bombs
$20 an hour, 10% overhead, 30% profit and 10% fees. Time is per bomb from a batch.

Market prices are often round numbers like $6 or $8. Round up from these, not down.
Pricing mistakes to avoid
- Leaving out fragrance cost. Fragrance is often the most expensive part of the recipe.
- No loss allowance. Cracked bombs happen, especially in humid weather.
- Free toy embeds. Toys and embeds add cost. Price kids bombs higher.
- Skipping ingredient labels. Labels build trust and may be required where you sell.

The same 5 oz bath bomb at $5.00 leaves different money in your pocket depending on where it sells. This uses the $2.97 cost to make from the example above, with Etsy's current transaction, processing and listing fees and Square's in-person card rate. Shipping, sales tax and ads are left out.

On Etsy, fees take about 18% of a $5.00 sale. The fixed $0.45 per order hits small items hardest, so bundles and multi-packs keep more of each sale. If a sale comes through Etsy Offsite Ads, add another 15% (12% for shops over $10,000 a year), so build that into your price if you're enrolled. Wholesale at half of retail loses $0.47 per piece here. Either raise retail, lower your cost, or set a separate wholesale price with a case minimum.
Bulk and custom order pricing
For a party favor order of mini bath bombs, custom color, scent and label setup takes about 0.5 hr at $20.00/hr. Charge that once per order, then spread it across the pieces. Materials are $0.90 per piece and hands-on time is 3 minutes, which drops when you batch the same design. Overhead is 10%, profit 30%, and 3% covers card or invoice fees.

The price per piece falls from $17.54 to $2.58 because the setup is shared, not because you cut your rate. Quote the tier the customer actually orders, ask for a 50% deposit before you buy blanks, and set a minimum order size for custom work.
